What is a green event?

A green event is an event that aims to reduce the detrimental human ecological impact that it takes to conduct such activities. From waste management to energy conservation, menu choices to facilities selection, green events constantly keep sustainability and environmentally friendly practices in mind.

How to Host a Green Event


1. Call the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling at (919) 962-1442 for information and reservation forms.  
    The earlier you contact us, the better!

 
2. Complete and e-mail below reservation form to GreenEvents@fac.unc.edu.

3. Arrange a short meeting to discuss:
 

  • Date and time of event
  • Number of attendees
  • Menu
  • Waste reduction practices
  • Composting logistics  

 Minimal requirements for a green event

  • Compost and recycle to minimize or eliminate the need for trash cans
  • If reusable serving options are unavailable, use compostable dishes and cutlery
  • Minimize individually wrapped packaging
  • Serve reasonable portions to prevent food waste
  • Utilize other tips regarding transportation, communication, and location.
